Connect OpenClaw to Mailchimp

Let an OpenClaw agent manage Mailchimp audiences, draft and schedule campaigns and pull campaign reports, with no credentials handed to the agent.

Mailchimp is the email marketing tool that small businesses, nonprofits and a lot of marketing teams use to keep in touch with their audience: the monthly newsletter, the product announcement, the event reminder. Around it sits a pile of routine work. Someone has to add the new sign-ups to the right audience and tag them, build the campaign from this month’s content, send a test to the team, schedule it, and then go back a few days later to pull opens, clicks and unsubscribes into a report.

With Claworc’s External Connections, an OpenClaw agent can work inside your Mailchimp account on your behalf. You sign in to Mailchimp once through a popup, Composio holds the resulting token, and the agent gets an auto-generated claworc-mailchimp skill that tells it which Mailchimp tools exist and how to call them. The agent never sees a password, an OAuth token or an API key.

Composio’s Mailchimp toolkit exposes 272 actions and 4 triggers, covering audiences, campaigns, reports, automations, templates and e-commerce data. In practice an OpenClaw agent leans on a handful of capabilities:

  • Add or update subscribers — put a new sign-up into an audience, or update the details of someone who is already there, without creating duplicates.
  • Tag and segment — apply or remove tags on a subscriber, creating the tag if it does not exist yet, so segments stay current as people move through your funnel.
  • Search the audience — find subscribers by email or name in one audience or across the whole account.
  • Create campaigns — start a new campaign and fill in its content from a draft you provide.
  • Send test emails — send a test version of a campaign to chosen addresses before it goes to the audience.
  • Schedule a send — schedule a draft campaign that passes the send checklist for a specific date and time.
  • Pull campaign reports — delivery, open, click, bounce and unsubscribe figures for one campaign or all of them.

Every action goes through a small broker running next to the agent, so the agent only needs to describe what it wants done in plain language and let the skill handle the rest.

“Create this month’s newsletter campaign for the Customers audience using the draft in this document, send a test to me and Priya, and leave it in drafts.” The agent creates the campaign, sets the content, and sends the test. You read it on your phone, ask for one tweak, then tell the agent to schedule it for Thursday at 10:00. Nothing goes out without you saying so.

Paste a list of new sign-ups from a webinar and ask the agent to add them to the main audience and tag them webinar-sept. It adds or updates each one, applies the tag, and reports how many were already subscribers. Later, “who on the list is tagged trial but never opened anything?” is a search plus a look at the reports.

A few days after a send, ask “how did Tuesday’s campaign do compared with the last three?” The agent pulls the reports, lines up open rate, click rate and unsubscribes side by side, and points out anything unusual, such as a bounce rate that doubled.

Connecting Mailchimp takes three steps: an admin adds a Composio API key to Claworc’s settings, you open the instance’s Settings tab, click + Add connection, pick Mailchimp and sign in. The claworc-mailchimp skill appears in the instance a moment later. The full walkthrough, including the exact Composio permissions the key needs, is in the External Connections documentation.
